Workshop on National Tribal Talent Pool Conclave at KISS-DU

MoTA- The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, GoI or the Government of India and the National Tribal Research Institute, New Delhi, along with the Government of Odisha, SCSTRTI and KISS-DU, conducted a 2-day workshop on the National Talent Pool Conclave in joint collaboration on the 23rd and 24th of September 2021.


The workshop was organised with the objective of developing the scholastic and cognitive abilities of the tribal scholars by offering them a good learning environment along with recognition, support and contribution. The program was also conducted with the motive of enabling the tribal scholars to hone their entrepreneurship and research skills. This online event saw academicians, scholars and research supervisors from different parts of the country.

The Hon’ble Minister of State, tribal Affairs, Government of Indian, Shri Bishweswar Tudu, spoke at the conclave and threw good light on the talent that the Tribals possess in the field of folklore, dance, songs, sports and handicrafts. He further added that such cultures and relevant talent and skills need to be developed apart from imparting top quality formal education to the students.

The NGOs, universities, State Governments and educational institutions should also work towards promoting patriotic sentiments and values among the young generation. All these institutions should work in a collective manner to make “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” a grand success, Shri Tudu further added.

The Secretary at Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Shri. Anil Kumar Jha expressed his complete satisfaction about the fact that the “National Tribal Talent Pool Conclave” is one of the most significant initiatives of the Ministry striving to offer a national stage for the Tribal research scholars. It also comes as a platform where the Tribal research scholars can easily showcase all their knowledge and achievements that have great utility in the private and the public sectors.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Navaljit Kapoor, the Joint Secretary, MoTA, Government of India, who introduced and underlined the work of the NFST or National Fellowship for Scheduled Tribe Students. He put forward that almost 750 students had been chosen for the scholarship. The Special Director at National Tribal Research Institute (NTRI), Dr. Nupur Tiwary, spoke on the “National Perspective on Tribal Talent Pool and Capacity Building”. She laid special emphasis on the need for modern collaborative research along with the maintenance of a good tribal data repository.

Mentor NTRI and DG IIPA, Shri S.N. Tripathy stressed the potential pedagogic building of the teachers so as to identify major problem areas of their respective students while offering solutions to the same. Tripathy further stated that the Tribal Talent Pool must play a significant role as a think-tank of the Ministry for helping in the conservation of cultural traditions and values of the Tribal communities. Then there was Professor A.B Ota, who spoke on “TRIs and their role with Tribal Scholars for Tribal development.”

There were four completely technical sessions taken by the former Vice-Chancellor of the Utkal University of Culture, Bhubaneswar, prof.K.K. Misra, along with other eminent personalities on “Research Methodology in Social Sciences”, “Hands-On training in Statistical Tools and Plagiarism Software”, “How to Formulate Research Proposal, Analyse Data, Frame Work and Write Report” and “Ethnograohic Fieldwork.”
