PM Modi Awards ‘5G Use Case Lab’ to KIIT-DU

On Friday, 27th October, 2023, during the inauguration of the 7th Edition of the Indian Mobile Congress in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi awarded a “5G Use Case Lab” to Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Deemed-to-be-University. The award came with the objective to enable faculties and students to make the best use of opportunities and come up with solutions for varied sectors in this use case lab featuring 5G technology. Besides KIIT-DU, the Prime Minister awarded the 5G Use Case Labs to 99 other academic institutions across India during the event.

Modi exuded huge confidence while awarding the labs during the inauguration of the 7th Edition of Indian Mobile Congress. During the event, he said that “These labs prompt the youth to dream big and give them confidence to achieve them.” He was confident of the fact that the 5G use case labs will have the same impact as the 10,000 Atal tinkering labs that exposed 75 lakh children to high-end technology.

As per a statement issued by the Indian government, these labs have been specifically put in place to realise the scopes that come with 5G technology while encouraging the development of 5G applications that generally cater to India’s exclusive requirements along with the universal demands. This exclusive initiative on the part of the Indian government will enhance innovation in different socio-economic fields, such as agriculture, education, power, health and transportation while also propelling India right at the forefront of using 5G technology.

Also, this unique initiative is one of the most crucial steps towards building a 6G-ready start-up and academic ecosystem in India. And most importantly, this initiative comes as a step towards the development of indigenous telecom technology that is considered crucial for national security.
